Ernest Hemingway said, “There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed”. We think the same is true for film-making. If you don’t bleed all over your work it has no soul. It means nothing. People can’t connect with it. Having a good solid, honest story is what engages an audience. It’s what makes them feel the characters, and edge forward to see what happens next. There is something to be said for production, for look, for slick, eye-popping candy, but without the story, the heart is lost, and so is your audience. The key to our film-making is to find the heart, the truth of the story, and express it at every level, every layer – the performance, the design, the picture, the cut, the audio, even down to the details of make-up and wardrobe – everything must point to the heart of the story. This is what we aim for.
